STEM Storytellers – 2022 Authors
Amber Wang
Amber is a high school student in the tenth grade. She has been interested in genetics for many years. She believes genetics is a very interesting topic but can sometimes be hard to understand, so this book was created to share this fun topic with others. Combined with Amber’s love for cats and illustrations, this story was materialized. Outside of writing, Amber also enjoys swimming and drawing. She also likes volunteering at various school events. In addition, she enjoys participating in science clubs and projects.
Aneri Shethji
Aneri Shethji is a high schooler who grew up interested in science and writing. Publishing a children’s book was the perfect way for Aneri to combine these passions while educating curious minds about the wonders of science. In her free time, Aneri loves listening to music, going on bike rides, and writing for the Carnegie Science Center’s Teen Science Blog. She hopes that many will want to learn about all that science has to offer!
Ashnavi Ghosh
Ashnavi Ghosh is a high schooler that loves science! She hopes that readers can learn the fascinating story of how their fruits and vegetables are grown. Ashnavi can normally be found listening to or playing music, going on walks outside, and watching movies at home. Interested in genetics, she is eager to make future generations more knowledgeable about this topic. She wishes she learned more about genetics and its broad usage when she was younger rather than during high school.
Athena Zhang
Athena is a current sophomore at North Allegheny High School. She is a wholehearted animal lover who also enjoys music and art. She hopes to pursue a career in veterinary science, but her biggest goal is to see a world where society understands animals better. In her free time, you can find her volunteering at animal shelters or getting bubble tea with friends.
Ava Savage
This is Ava’s first published book, but not her first story. She has always loved reading, telling stories, learning about animals, and exploring the great outdoors! Some of her favorite animals are dragons and snakes. She absolutely adores all plants and nature as well. She loves to spend time with her family and friends, as well as with her awesome dog. She also does quite a bit of drawing and ceramics in her free time!
Elizabeth Rhodes
Elizabeth is a high school senior who has loved science her entire life. Her interests in science and research include astronomy, physics, and biology. She dedicated Margot’s World of Science to her little sister Margot. She hopes to inspire young girls from diverse backgrounds to find passion in STEM by providing representation for female scientists. She intends to pursue a career in science writing and reporting while she continues to promote diversity in male dominated fields.
Jazmiere Bates
Jazmiere Bates is a 16 year old youth entrepreneur owner of Kin of Duncan who creates handmade pet gear in the city of Pittsburgh. She decided to pivot to book writing to help children advance their learning by using what is around them in their daily environments!
Kaartic Muralidharan
Kaartic Muralidharan is a teenager from Pittsburgh. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, which inspired the layout of download Voriak. He has been interested in science from a young age and has enjoyed his many science experiences, including competing in the Regional Science Bowl. He is passionate about taking action against climate change as we are running out of time before permanent damage happens to our environment. He hopes his book will bring both awareness and interest to the field of clean energy.
Nathan Tamarree
Nathan Tamarree has been interested in science since pre-school. He has special interest in space, rocket science, and physics. He has competed in many different competitions, such as the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Competition, where he got second place. He was inspired to write this book, since there were not a lot of books about chemistry, and more specifically, atoms. Nathan hopes that this book, The Dalton Family, will make the future generation be smart, have a head start in understanding the world, and push a bright path forward.
Omisa Shah
Omisa is a freshman at North Allegheny High School. She is a percussionist, amateur photographer, and animal lover. When she is not in school, Omisa can be found doing crosswords, watching the Pittsburgh Penguins, and plotting ways to annoy her younger siblings.
Owen Thompson
Owen Thompson lives in Pittsburgh, PA, and is the author of Raymond and The Robot. He has always been inclined to pursue a career centered around technology, but he has not narrowed it down yet. For leisure, he takes pleasure in bowling, golf, fishing, and archery. You will also find him going to the movies, riding his bike, or taking a stroll through the neighborhood.
Sophia Smith
Sophia A. Smith is a 9th grader at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School (OLSH) and has been fascinated with medical science as long as she can remember. She treasures her memories of reading books about medicine as a young child and hopes she can give some of the same experience to other children. She is currently considering a career in medicine or law and, in her free time, enjoys studying violin, participating in theater at school, and reading (at the moment, she’s especially interested in Russian literature).
Teresa Kedzierski
Teresa Kedzierski was born in Pittsburgh and has lived there all her life. She loves nature, science, and outer space. Her inspiration for this book came when her younger brother first started asking questions about astronauts and outer space. Teresa loved writing this book and she hopes you enjoy it just as much!
Veeru Senthil
Veeru Senthil is a junior at South Fayette High School who has always had a fascination with computer science, especially artificial intelligence and machine learning. Books played a critical role in his development, and he treasures memories of reading books of all topics as a child. Hoping to share this experience with others, he wrote this book to introduce a younger generation to the captivating world of artificial intelligence.
Yuki Qian
Yuki is a current high school student at North Allegheny. Her current passions lie in chemical engineering, sustainability, and poverty reduction. She hopes to find a career in engineering, but her biggest goal is to be able to make a change in the world. She wishes that through her book, youth can gain different perspectives of the world and how sustainable engineering is a big part of our future. She hopes that you will encounter her again, doing something to help the world. In the meantime, she will be playing her clarinet and finding new artists to listen to.
