Visitor Safety Guidelines for Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh

Your safety is our number one goal! We know that you expect a great experience when you visit the Science Center and thoughtful measures have been taken to ensure that we meet your expectations.

On February 25, 2022, The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) classified Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland counties as having low community infection levels.

Considering this assessment and additional guidelines by the CDC, masks are optional for visitors to Carnegie Museums. We will continue to monitor the pandemic and respond to expert guidance, and we stand ready to adjust our policy should that prove necessary.

Masks are available on-site if you request one. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, are experiencing symptoms, or have been exposed to COVID-19, we invite you to explore our virtual offerings at Science at Home.

Please note:

If you or a family member have not been vaccinated, please consider taking this important step to protect yourselves and others around you!

NOTICE FOR ALL BUYERS – By attending an in-person event at any of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold any presenting entities, artists, and the venue; or any of their affiliates, directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.

These protocols are recommended by the PA Department of Health and the US Centers for Disease Control.

  • Limiting the number of visitors in the building
  • Providing hand sanitizing stations at convenient locations
  • Providing masks to employees and visitors who request them while on property
  • Instituting timed ticketing and encouraging advance ticket purchases, eliminating on-line service charges. (Members also should reserve their free, timed, tickets in advance.)
  • Closing a limited number of areas or exhibits that cannot be sanitized regularly
  • Increased fresh airflow in the building and the air filtration system in the building exceeds American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recommendations.
