Virtual Fab Lab Classes
Bring the maker movement to you with NEW virtual classes from BNY Mellon Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center!
Virtual Fab Lab classes invite students in grades 3–12 to innovate, interact, and invent using Tinkercad, an online 3D design software that can be accessed from any internet browser. Students will delve deep into computer-aided design concepts as they explore maker technology and learn about the world around them.
Virtual workshops include:
- Animal Adaptations: Can scientists determine an animal’s diet just by the location of the eyes in the skull? Learn how scientists make sense of animal adaptations by making models in Tinkercad. Grades 3–12
- Building to Scale: Carnegie Science Center’s Miniature Railroad & Village® uses 3D printers to add elements for its O-scale model railroad. Your task: Combine art and architecture to design a new structure that would fit in to the Miniature Railroad. Grades 3–12
- Making Virtual Circuits: Tinkercad has more than just 3D design. Virtually experiment with LEDS, resisters, and circuits. Grades 3–8
- Scaling the Solar System: Explore and compare the size of planets, the asteroid belt, and the Sun by building digital scale models. Grades 3–5
Capacity: Up to 10 students
Duration: 90 minutes
Cost: $150 per class
