Sensory Sensitive Summer Camps

The health and safety of Carnegie Science Center visitors, members, and camp staff is our top priority. Due to the current public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 and the Allegheny County Health Department’s new order for a one-week closure of all activities or events over 25 people, Carnegie Science Center Summer Camps during the week of July 6 are canceled. If your child is registered for Summer Camp during the week of July 6, a member of our visitor services team will contact you within the week or contact us at customerservice@carnegiesciencecenter.org. We will continue to monitor the public health recommendations provided by the Allegheny County Health Department and the PA Department of Health and will alert camp registrants regarding the week of July 13 and beyond if there are changes to those camps

Your camper will have a safe and educational experience at Carnegie Science Center’s Summer Camps. From biology to space and from robotics to video game design, science camps offer awe-inspiring education for every interest!

Registration

Registration is open via the website or by emailing CustomerService@CarnegieScienceCenter.org.

Carnegie Science Center will be offering several sensory-friendly camp sessions throughout the summer. These camps are specifically adapted for children with sensory processing disorders and/or on the autism spectrum. Adaptations include:

  • Lower camp-to-staff ratio
  • Reduction of loud sounds and bright lights
  • Availability of sensory tools such as noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, and weighted objects
  • Modified classroom furniture, with flexible seating and a quiet space
  • Streamlined check-in and check-out procedures

To register, please call 412.237.3400.

Full-day camps run from 9:30 am–3:30 pm
Campers must bring a bagged lunch

Carnegie Science Center Summer Camps are specifically developed for the age group listed. To make the most of your campers’ experience, they must be the appropriate age on the date the selected camp begins. If necessary, Science Center staff will contact you to reschedule your camper.

NOTE: Waiting list status can be requested if a program is full. No deposit is necessary to hold a place on the list. Parents/guardians will be notified by phone if space becomes available.
