Ages 10-11 Full Day Camps

The health and safety of Carnegie Science Center visitors, members, and camp staff is our top priority. Due to the current public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 and the Allegheny County Health Department’s new order for a one-week closure of all activities or events over 25 people, Carnegie Science Center Summer Camps during the week of July 6 are canceled. If your child is registered for Summer Camp during the week of July 6, a member of our visitor services team will contact you within the week or contact us at customerservice@carnegiesciencecenter.org. We will continue to monitor the public health recommendations provided by the Allegheny County Health Department and the PA Department of Health and will alert camp registrants regarding the week of July 13 and beyond if there are changes to those camps


Your camper will have a safe and educational experience at Carnegie Science Center’s Summer Camps. From biology to space and from robotics to video game design, science camps offer awe-inspiring education for every interest!

Full-day camps run from 9 am–4 pm
Campers must bring a bagged lunch

Carnegie Science Center Summer Camps are specifically developed for the age group listed. To make the most of your campers’ experience, they must be the appropriate age on the date the selected camp begins. If necessary, Science Center staff will contact you to reschedule your camper.

Take your art and programming skills to the next level! Write, film, and direct a stop-motion short. Code and design animated shorts and games using Blockly language in Scratch, then create pocket-sized games using JavaScript and micro:bit.

Merge engineering, electricity, and creativity with littleBits and Makey Makey technology. Create custom instruments, ingenious inventions, and design a star projector. Dive into game design and build unique and quirky game controllers out of pool noodles, vegetables, and more.


Apocalyptic Architecture

Band together with your fellow campers to design and build new cities in an imaginary post-apocalyptic world. Discover how disasters, like storms and plagues, can ravage your city, and figure out how to protect yourself from these potential dangers.


Video Game Design

Immerse yourself in the creative world of video game design! Aspiring game designers will create their own worlds, design unique characters, and build complex levels. Investigate the differences in top-down versus platformer development and experiment with the design process as you program, debug, and polish off a game of your very own.

Using LEGO® Education’s EV3’s, design and program custom robots to compete in races of speed, tests of durability, and feats of strength. Incorporate motors, gears, and sensors to overcome obstacle courses, dash through mazes, and engage in soccer, sumo wrestling, and battle bot matches. Let the games begin!


NEW! Mad Science Lab

Become “mad” for science as you experience exciting, awe-inspiring, and often unusual physics and chemistry experiments. Use natural forces to levitate and launch objects, discover how to transform household items into bouncy balls, and uncover unexpected ways to harness electricity.


Camps Greatest Hits

Before summer wraps up and school begins, revisit the greatest hits from science camp! Launch Alka-Seltzer rockets, make slime, build LEGO® contraptions, and race robots. All your favorite activities in one jam-packed week!

What types of games and toys can be made with 3D printers, laser cutters, and vinyl cutting machines? In this camp, learn how to make some simple toys and then create your very own toy company, design a T-shirt, and manufacture personalized toys.


Fab Lab: Build Your Virtual World Camp

Mon., Aug. 10–Fri., Aug. 14
9 am–4 pm

COST: $320/$345 (members/nonmembers)
Materials fee included in price

Design and fabricate your own personalized cardboard VR viewer and experiment with VR software. Adapt virtual worlds and even create some of your own! (Campers should bring their own smartphone to this camp and have access to installing free apps).
