Society Science

Many issues we struggle with in our society can be discussed through the lens of science. Carnegie Science Center aspires to serve as a town square for community dialogue on real-world events and the implications on the Pittsburgh community and beyond. Society Science provides science-based facts and information in a way that everyone can understand, so that the decisions that you make are informed ones and it also explains the science behind some events, laws, practices, and policies that affect you.

Some topics that will be discussed are: What is gerrymandering and how does it affect elections? How does the Census affect individuals in my community? How do we know vaccines are safe? Mark your calendar for the important on-site and virtual event topics and dates listed below and look for more in the upcoming weeks!

On-site safety guidelines:

To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant in areas with substantial/high transmission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly recommends that every person—vaccinated and unvaccinated—wear a mask when inside public spaces. Our staff members will be wearing masks, and we require all visitors age 2 and over to wear masks as well. Additionally, we strongly encourage all visitors to purchase their tickets online in advance of arriving to ensure availability. Members can reserve their timed ticket by adding their membership number at check out.
