FAQs for Summer Camps

We know that you expect a great experience when you send your children to the Science Center and thoughtful measures have been taken to ensure that we meet your expectations while still working to keep your child safe. Here are answers to questions you may have about how your Carnegie Science Center Summer Camp experience will change.

When can I register?

Registration is open via the website or by emailing CustomerService@CarnegieScienceCenter.org.

What if my camp is canceled?

In case of insufficient registration, Carnegie Science Center reserves the right to cancel any program two weeks before it begins. All registered participants will have the option of attending another camp or receiving a full refund. We are evaluating upcoming programming and will communicate by email if there are any changes to camps for which you are registered at least four weeks prior to your scheduled camp. For questions regarding a Summer Camp reservation, please email CustomerService@CarnegieScienceCenter.org.

What are you requiring of campers to be sure that everyone is safe?

  • Face coverings (mouth and nose) will be required for all campers and staff.
  • Temperature checks for camp staff and campers.
  • Social distancing of six feet will be required of all campers and visitors.
  • Handwashing and hand sanitizing stations are readily available; campers will receive proper hygiene encouragement.
  • Parent confirmation that the camper is not ill and has not come into contact with others who have experienced symptoms of COVID-19.

Who are the camp instructors?

Carnegie Science Center camp instructors are professional teachers and college seniors majoring in science or education, assisted by college students with documented experience working with children. Camps are designed by camp instructors and full-time Carnegie Science Center professionals to be age-appropriate, stimulating, and exciting. All summer camp staff members–instructors and assistants—have passed thorough background checks.

What does the camp registration fee include?

Camp registration fees include all scheduled activities, instruction, materials, plenty of time to explore the Science Center, and a summer camp T-shirt. Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh members enjoy discounted fees. 

Are scholarships available?

Why are you having camp while other organizations are canceling it?

How many children are in each camp?

The capacity of the camps that are currently scheduled to take place this season has been greatly reduced to ensure safe social distancing, therefore there are a limited number of spaces available in them. Each room and camp capacity allow at least six feet between campers or 1/3 normal capacity.

What is your payment policy?

Online registration is the most effective way to secure your place in camp. Online registration requires payment in full by credit card. Registration can also be done via email. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Email CustomerService@CarnegieScienceCenter.org to register.

What happens if the camp I want is sold out?

We encourage you to explore our exciting lineup of 75+ camps for kids and teens with all interests! If restrictions change this summer and we’re able to offer additional camps or increase our capacity, please fill out this form opens in a new window to be notified. We are constantly monitoring all recommendations by the PA Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please note, you will only be notified by email if there are any changes to the current camp schedule.
