Virtual ChemFest draws 4,800+ students
Last month, more than 4,800 students in grades 3–12 participated in ChemFest, a virtual celebration of National Chemistry Week that featured live career conversations, demonstrations, and educational videos. Read more about ChemFest.

Workshops invite visitors to join the maker movement
BNY Mellon Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center’s 101 Workshops give children and adults a foundation for using the digital fabrication equipment in Pittsburgh’s favorite makerspace. Read more about 101 Workshops.

- The Grable Foundation donated $81,375 towards creating and hosting a virtual field trip platform during the time of COVID-19 and beyond.
- Arconic Foundation has committed $40,000 toward virtual field trip development and scholarships for virtual field trips and Science on the Road programs.
- Isaly’s is sponsoring SkyTykes at Highmark SportWorks® Ropes Challenge, Locomotion Weekend, and summer camp programs with a donation of $27,000.
- The Heinz Endowments donated $22,730 in support of Carnegie Science Center’s contribution to the Hazelwood Project.
- Agora Cyber Charter School is sponsoring Mummies of the World for $25,000.
- Carnegie Science Center will provide programming for eighth grade students at Pittsburgh Public Schools thanks to $20,000 from the Howmet Aerospace Foundation for BNY Mellon Fab Lab.
- The EQT Foundation has awarded the Science Center with $50,000 for EQT West Virgina STEMakers Education Engagement Program. This program will serve four schools in Wetzel County, West Virginia, with a virtual STEM and online engagement learning series this fall and in-person Mobile Fab Lab experiences for teachers and students in the spring.
- Reach Cyber Charter School is sponsoring the Miniature Railroad & Village® exhibition with a donation of $25,000.
- The Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation awarded $50,000 for operating and the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
