Welcome

Who would have imagined only a couple of months ago the situation in which we all find ourselves? Although Carnegie Science Center is temporarily closed due to public health concerns surrounding COVID-19, our team has identified and is creating amazing new ways of delighting, educating, and inspiring our community with (virtual) experiences in science and technology.

We have expanded our digital outreach efforts to continually engage and entertain our community members at home with science activities, articles, videos, and educational resources. Each day on Facebook and Twitter, we post CSC’s Three Things, a curated list of something to read, something to watch, and something to do that will keep families happy, learning, and exploring together. We’ve ramped up our video content on YouTube and Facebook Live, with our staff educators adapting existing theater shows and programming, as well as coming up with new ideas for bringing the Science Center experience into people’s homes. We’ve also created a new Online Educator Resources section of our website for K-12 educators transitioning to online instruction. Developed by our STEM educators, these resources include lesson plans, activities, and educational videos that cover a broad range of content themes in science, technology, engineering, and math.

When the time comes to reopen our buildings, the “new normal” will certainly present unique challenges. However, our innovative team is looking forward to once again providing a safe, welcoming place for our community to enjoy and be inspired by informal science education. We are working diligently to ensure that safety remains our highest priority in our in-person Science Center experiences while exceeding the expectations of visitors. Also, when possible, we are working to convert many of our summer and fall educational experiences to online formats for those visitors who cannot, or choose not, to attend in person at this time.

In short, our foremost priority remains providing a safe, educational, and inspirational experience for all those who have come to expect nothing less from Carnegie Science Center. This has not and will not change because of the current pandemic. I hope you and your families are staying healthy and safe, and I look forward to seeing you again soon in person. In the meantime, take care and be well.

Sincerely,
