Meet the Camp Staff

Carnegie Science Center camp instructors are professional teachers, assisted by college students with documented experience working with children. Camps are designed by camp instructors and full-time Carnegie Science Center professionals to be age-appropriate, stimulating, and exciting! All summer camp staff members – instructors and assistants – have passed thorough background checks.

Jocelyn Farrell

Hi! My name is Jocelyn Farrell, and I’m the Education Coordinator of Out of School Learning here at Carnegie Science Center. I graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Secondary Education and a concentration in Earth and Space Sciences. This will be my fifth year of summer camp here at the Science Center, but I’ve been working and volunteering at other summer camp programs since I was a teenager. When it’s not summer, you might find me teaching scout workshops, facilitating homeschool programs, and running sleepovers.

Alaina Caulkett

Hi! I’m Alaina Caulkett. I have been teaching at Carnegie Science Center for a year and a half. Over the past seven years, I have worked in education positions at the National Building Museum, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, and Carnegie Museum of Natural History teaching camps, writing curriculum, facilitating field trips, and more. Recently, I became a National Geographic Certified Educator. I love cats, architecture, and airplanes and could talk about any of them for hours. See you this summer!

Erin Thompson

I’m Erin Thompson, and I'm so excited to be returning for my second year of Summer Camp at the Science Center! I am a Pittsburgh native and have been coming to the Science Center since it opened. I have my Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education and a K-6 teaching certification. At the Science Center, I primarily teach preschool and pre-K camps and classes, along with Girl Scout workshops. My favorite camps are space camps and ones where we get messy! In my spare time, I enjoy having adventures with my husband and four-year old daughter, baking lots of sweet treats, and reading!
