Heralded by CNN as a “Global Must-See Exhibition,” THE ART OF THE BRICK by artist Nathan Sawaya is a critically acclaimed collection of inspiring artworks made exclusively from one of the most recognizable toys in the world: the LEGO® brick. From child’s toy to sophisticated art form and beyond, THE ART OF THE BRICK features original pieces as well as re-imagined versions of the world’s most famous art masterpieces like Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, as well as a gallery showcasing an innovative, multimedia collection of LEGO brick-infused photography produced in tandem with award-winning photographer Dean West. THE ART OF THE BRICK will be on display at PPG Science Pavilion at Carnegie Science Center June 16 through January 7, 2019.
Nathan Sawaya has spent his artistic career creating works from unlikely objects and inspirations. The touring exhibition THE ART OF THE BRICK continues this trend thought the creation of large-scale sculptures using the popular toy building blocks and is the first exhibition of its type to use LEGO exclusively. Sawaya’s medium works to engage audiences young and old by utilizing a children’s toy to demonstrate sophisticated and complex concepts of art and design.
THE ART OF THE BRICK has visited more than 80 cities worldwide and has been exhibited on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. Sawaya is said to possess the largest individual collection of LEGO bricks with over 6 million pieces in his studio.

This hands-on builder activity area features 17 activity tables with eight different brick building challenges and interactives, plus free-play and demonstration areas.
