The exhibition enthralls guests with dramatic displays of the mummies and their personal stories, as well as state-of-the-art multimedia stations that take visitors on a 4,500-year journey to explore the mummies’ history and origins as well as how they were created, both naturally and intentionally. This is one of the Pittsburgh events that you do not want to miss. Kids activities include intriguing interactive stations. Opening Weekend Special Guest Experts

Sat., Oct. 5

Professor Cassandra L. Kuba and students from California University of Pennsylvania, 10 am–1 pm in the main lobby (included with a General Admission ticket) – Stop by Cal U’s mummies activity table to see real animal mummies and learn about the science behind them!

Professor Margaret A. Judd, 1 pm in the Suzy Broadhurst Overlook (included with a Mummies of the World ticket) – Professor Judd is a bioarchaeologist in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh. As a bioarchaeologist, she studies ancient human skeletal remains to discover how people experienced life and death within their unique sociocultural and physical environment. She’ll talk about her studies and mummification at a 20-minute, family-friendly presentation on the second floor of the gallery.

Professor Judd completed her graduate work in Canada and England and was Special Collections Curator in the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan at The British Museum before coming to the University of Pittsburgh in 2004. She is Vice President of the Paleopathology Association. She has excavated extensively in Jordan and northern Sudan. Most recently she excavated a Byzantine monastic crypt at Mount Nebo, Jordan.
